Black Friday?

Will someone please explain to me- what is the appeal of Black Friday? In the past, it was the only time you could get great bargains on anything that you were buying for Christmas. Now, we have internet shopping deals and stores offering sale prices up until zero hour before Christmas day. I mean, I love to shop as much as the next gal, but not in crowds so excessive and frenzied that I would be driven to drink by 10 A.M. Not to mention the fact that on one of my rare days off, I would have to get up earlier than I normally would... um, no thanks!! Good for those of you that brave the mess on Black Friday- just know that you will never see my mug in the crowd on that day! Now, back to internet surfing in the comfort of my own home...

If the stores already have Christmas stuff up, then so can I!

I need more free time... in order to waste it!

I just bought Paul a Nintendo Wii for his birthday, and I don't know if I should love or hate this thing!! Like Facebook, it's eating away at my precious free time. Unlike Facebook, it's also making me sore! If you haven't seen the Wii, the remotes are different than other game systems. You have to make the actual motion instead of just pushing a button. Needless to say, after many moons of swinging my arms in order to play "Wii Tennis," my arm, shoulder, and back are constantly sore! This thing is kicking my sorry butt into shape, but at what cost? : )

Spike, Izzy and Charlie

On CNN, I found this video about the "alarming" iguana population in Boca. At the Boca elementary school I work at, we have three iguanas that have unofficially become our new mascots! The kids have named them Spike, Izzy and Charlie. They get stuck in the fence occasionally, but other than that, we love them! Last year, Spike even ran to first base to watch our recess kickball game...

Palin/Clinton SNL Parody

The rest of the show may have been unfunny, but Tina Fey and Amy Poehler pretty much nailed this one! Until this clip, I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud at Saturday Night Live... (Sorry about the ads- this was the highest-quality video I could find.)

Facebook Addict

So, I hear about Facebook from a friend who took pity on my lack of "Internet Withit-ness." I figure, what's the harm in checking it out? Paul and I both signed up. Paul browses the site once in a blue moon, like a normal human being. I, on the other hand, have become a full-on addict. Vim, you said it right when you told me that it would suck up all of my free time! I am still a relatively productive member of society, mind you, but with a constant stream of applications and friend updates running through my brain...

Hanna, Ike, and Josephine...won't you please stay away from me?

Well, we just got around Hanna (minus some rain today, never that big of a deal). NOW, here comes Ike- it looks like he may brush south of us, but one never knows...
Then there's Josephine right behind him! Global warming a myth? I don't think so!! I don't remember this Battan Death March of Storms when we first moved here roughly 20 years ago!

No Bertha...No Problem!

Well, being in Southeast Florida certainly has its perks. You have the beach nearby, the year-round warmth, the sunshine, a good variety of food, and the Keys are just a day's drive away. There are also the well-documented downers: the humidity, the strange population, the crazy drivers, and the most fun of all- hurricanes. So I turn on the news lately, and we get this week's round of "what we're watching in the Atlantic;" namely, Big Ol' Bertha. It seems she's heading away from us, so I can stop holding my breath!
Back to home renovations and my summer E-Bay habit...

Do You Have the Whing?

Paul and I got engaged last Thursday!! 6 1/2 years of dating is about enough, don't you think? I guess I'll leave Anthony and Liz alone to their marital bliss while I take up residence with Paul and Beck in North Lauderdale!

P.S. Any former brides, can you help me out?? Why is a wedding dress (you know, the one you wear for one day and then never again) so expensive? (And why do so many of them make your butt look like it has crumpled tissue paper hanging off of it??)

First Post

Well, here goes nothing! Welcome to the new blog...
